A post for the New Year

December was tough. I tended to reach for comfort food and overate at parties.  I was working on Physical Therapy for my knee, so I didn’t do all the workouts that I really wanted to do. I was very saddened by the loss of some of my favorite celebrities and artists and the junk in the news (disappointed by the Election and deeply saddened by the tragedy all over the world).  I was homesick and hormonal and emotional, waiting for that Christmas miracle of Pregnancy, only to be dashed yet again.

I had a fabulous birthday getaway in Palm Springs! We decided to get tickets for my sister’s destination wedding in Mexico in April!  I pet sat and enjoyed a Cousin Christmas and New Years and date nights and drinking! I shouldn’t complain!  I did get some workouts in.

I just now feel it’s time to go Paleo!

My word for this year? BELIEVE.

I tend to doubt and get down, so my way of coping is being a hopeless romantic and idealist who is optimistic about life to cover up the negativity.

Good books that I want to read or finish!:

In Due Time, Caroline Harries

Present Over Perfect, Shauna Niequist

The Broken Way, Ann Voskamp

When God Doesn’t Fix It, Laura Story

I still am reading a couple E book novels…;)

These are not really resolutions, just things I’m reminding myself to work on:

More breathing, less doing/eating

More reading, less screen time

More loving me, less negative self talk

More of Him, less of me

More “Thanks!” Less “Sorry”

More time with Lefty less iPhone/TV

More prayer less chatting

More God less of my own self

More debt paid less junk

More date night less girls night

More girls night less me time

More hiking less lounging

More JESUS less social media

More Scripture less News

More church less gossip

More worship less talk radio

More stretching less tension

More Heaven less secular

More Holy Spirit less politics

More books less articles

More loving, less critical complaints

More social justice less shopping

More donating, less to clean!

More listening less advice

More family time less binging at parties

More exercise less sitting

More vegetables less starch

More water less sugar

More meditation less clutter
Oh and “Don’t take any $&/+!”;)

Happy New Year! I am so thankful!

WCW post

Confession time: I realized I do have girl crushes!
Fitapproach and Sweat Pink and SweatGuru have been challenging me everyday with an exercise or healthy snack and also some inspiring ideas to help me blog and post new things! One being the people in my life that motivate me!
Today I want to tell you a little about L and M.E. I don’t want to hurt their privacy so I won’t go into great detail but they are battling the most awful:
ALS(Aka Lou Gehrigs).
L was my boss for about 4 years. She has been working in Physical Therapy for about 35 years. Educating and motivating people who are injured or have fallen, directing us at the hospital and starting “Team Verdugo”(just R our small group of coworkers who wanted to stay fit!)- through all of this she became like a mentor to me.
All of a sudden a little over a year ago she shared an intimate and devastating piece of news: her partner of over 25 years had been diagnosed with this horrible disease.
The last two years we walked the ALS walk with them and I wanted to say what their smiles do for me. Remember the ice bucket challenge? My husband did it to honor M.E.
M.E worked in the health insurance field so she became a friend to me too! L’s daughter is a friend to me too. Their grandsons are adorable!
My heart breaks every time my granny with dementia has another stroke or another fall. I even have a group of Catholic sisters in MA. praying for these two! I cannot imagine if something devastating liked this happened to anyone close to me. L takes care of M.E and has been constantly by her side and we really miss her at our workplace.
They aren’t my SweatPink blog sisters but these two are great heroes in my book! So now I challenge you to go meditate, go out and walk a block or run a mile. #noexcuses!

Ok I can’t keep my excitement hidden any longer…fitness blog event!

But I’ve been invited to attend this Fitness bloggers’ event !
fitness magazine blog event
So if you live in the area and blog about fitness, I want to see you there!:) I love Fitness magazine and reading other fitness blogs so I hope I can meet and network. People used to tell me they could see me as a fitness instructor, I just never focused in on educating myself in that area.
I had a rough end to the busy work week, so I was nervous sharing this news since I do have to request the day off from work, but my boss is okay with us taking a personal day when we need one, so that we are re-energized for the rest of the week.
I am an independent distributor for Reliv international (reliv.com) and I am a secretary for a physical therapy facility, and my new passion lately has been health, nutrition and fitness. I have enjoyed running off and on since middle school, but I always struggled with my weight. In college I fell into depression and comfort ate myself into trouble. With Reliv’s slimplicity, I lost 40 lbs., was off the couch and into the gym which is my second home. I don’t mean I stay all day there, but it have reached a comfort level with fitting it into my schedule and I love the new friends and instructors who help me.
My mama was always into nutrition and I just thought it was a bunch of herbs and “eat your greens,” boring and tasteless. But learning from her, getting help and results with Reliv, and reading blogs and pinning recipes and ideas from Pinterest, are all helping me toward my goals.
My coworkers are very motivating! A lot of them work out on lunch breaks, they help with stretches and tips, and we tend to all eat healthy or want to meet specific goals. My supervisor got us into the Fitbit pedometer, which is now my third arm.
Because I was a nanny and am now in healthcare, I see the good of exercise and nutrition, and it breaks my heart when I see someone suffering from poor nutrition, poor health, and lack of exercise. Even someone in a wheelchair can exercise! When I hurt my back I found fun YouTube.com videos of arm, back, ab exercises for immobile types.
I am so thankful for my health and for group exercise classes that have helped me. Today I am tired and headachy but maybe a walk or tea will help. I know water and prayer will:)
Enjoy your week, stay motivated! Get out there and be safe, healthy, strong and fit.
